Have you had a "family ditch day"? (photo)
    Haylen_WebMD_Staff posted:
Hubby and I ditched work, let the kids skip school and went to the Kings championship parade in downtown LA today. It was a great family day - one I'll remember forever!

Have you ever had a "ditch" day and blown off your obligations to do something fun with (or without) the kids?

Pic below is me and the kids - the gorilla is not DH

Looks like a fun time! When the Giants won the World Series many of the kids in both DS and DD1's classes skipped out early to go to the parade. I think even the head of school was discovered--LOL!

The kids and I do things like that occasionally and actually skipped the last day of school on Wednesday which was basically just the graduation speech/service. I took them into the city with another family from the school and we all spent the day at the California Academy of Sciences.

DH is less likely to play hookey but did skip out early yesterday to go watch the US Open golfers as they played their last practice round.

When DH & I had dermatologist appts out of town we let the kids go with us instead of going to daycare - nothing really fun but we all went out to eat & spent the day together.

Cool picture Haylen! Was the parade awesome?

DH can't really 'ditch' work so we have to schedule our fun days-but the kids don't always know when a plan has been made a couple weeks in advance, so to them it's ditching!
    Haylen_WebMD_Staff replied to VicsEandJ's response:
It was great! The best was that we took the metro downtown. At every stop (there were about 15 of them), more and more fans got on wearing Kings gear.

However, I wish I had not put the almost 4 year old on my shoulders. I'm still nursing a stiff neck!

That is so awesome Haylen!! Unfortunately I can't view the picture but I'm sure it's adorable.

I know when we lived back in NJ and the Devils won the Stanley Cup (I think it was 2003) we went to the big party they had at the Meadowlands and it was a blast. It was before kids so there was lots of drinking and tailgating.
    Haylen_WebMD_Staff replied to laney0705's response:
You can't see the picture? Well, I have to tell you, I'm a 6 foot tall blonde that sort of looks like a supermodel and hubby is a dead ringer for Johnny Depp

Everything before kids involved drinking! Or at least a cocktail or two...
    VicsEandJ replied to Haylen_WebMD_Staff's response:
Haylen- I think you posted the worng picture- Ha! Ha!!!

Now that Johnny Depp is free again and apprently living in LA, if you hook up with him, you can just tell your DH that you thought it was him since they look so much alike!

    VicsEandJ replied to laney0705's response:
Tailgating in the Meadowlands is awesome!

Although it wasn't as great as celebrating a championship must be, DH & I tailgated there once before a Jets playoff game (also pre-kids!) It was January and a night game so it was freezing (until the drinks kicked in) but it was great.
