OT: Job Interview attire

So I have some possiblities out there for full time work.
Just wondering if pant suits are okay for an interview or if it is still the norm for skirt suits?
A lot of companies I have noticed now have business casual attire.
So I assume those would be okay with pant suits.
Seems so taboo for me to even ask this question in 2012 but is there still a stigma with a woman wearing a pantsuit to an interview?
Some firms I know I will need skirt suits...consulting, insurance, financaial firms.
But what about those "business causual companies?
I have to buy some interview clothes for the future if not now I will need them within the next year..
thoughts?????

Pants are fine. I wore a dress to my first interview with my former company and pants to my second interview.

I'm going to be in the minority here but I still wear skirts to interviews. I have a few pant suits but haven't worn to interviews. I think it depends on the company and type of business.

I conduct alot of interviews and alot of the candidates wear slacks. I'm interviewing for mostly entry level clerical. A few weeks ago I was interviewing candidates for our executive director's assistant. Every candidate wore a skirt or dress.

Honestly, skirt suit, pant suit or dress doesn't matter as long as it is professional, neat and in a dark professional hue. I regularly wear all of the above to court and client meetings. There really isn't any stigma against any of these anymore in the professional world. What is most important is that you wear what makes you feel comfortable, relaxed and confident. Because it will translate in the interview.

I agree that any will do - it really depends on the industry and the area of the country you live in. I would typically wear a wrap dress or something similar to an interview even though I consider it to be less formal than a pant suit.

And with skirts you also have to consider the pantyhose factor. I live in LA and work in marketing, so I would never, ever wear pantyhose with a skirt or dress (unless they were a print or something). It would make me look old-fashioned and frumpy. But I'm sure there are places where you'd risk looking skanky without them.
