School starts TWO WEEKS from today. I am not ready for that madness to begin.

We go back to school on the 15th, just about 2 weeks. We got there shoes a few weekends ago. I will go get supplies this weekend.

Jacob has ran away from home 6 times in the last month. Yesterday I had to admit him to crisis services. He will get discharged Wednesday at 5:30. I will post more on this later.

    This weekend I canned:
    15 quarts of tomatoes
    14 pints of pickle relish
15 pints of bread and butter pickles
8 quarts & 1 pint of spag. sauce
I am in the process of making a 7 day pickle and will end up with somewhere around 35 quarts.

Last night was fend for yourself night. I will have to cook something tonight but don't have any ideas. Maybe Chicken Fried Rice. Though I have about 100 lbs. of tomatoes that I have to do something with tonight so I really don't know.

Sarah, I'm so sorry you are facing this challenge with Jacob - I hope crisis services are able to give you support, resources, whatever!

Bread & Butter pickles remind me of my grandma - we were very close and DD1 is named for her. Thanks for bringing up good memories of being with her on her farm in Oklahoma. She had a "cellar" to keep all of her canning cool - how do you keep yours? Do you have a gigantic kitchen?

    sarah0323 replied to Haylen_WebMD_Staff's response:
I wish I had a big kitchen. It is pretty small but we make it work. I have shelves in my laundry area for all the canned goods. We have talked about digging a cellar. We don't have a basement so would like some place to go incase of bad weather and a place for all the canned goods to go. Though it isn't in the budget right now but maybe one day.

I didn't even touch my tomatoes last night but I did decide what I'm going to do with them. I'm need to make salsa. Just realized that I am almost out.

I grew up canning all summer long with my grandma and mom. I didn't can for a few years because I really didn't see how it saved us money. After I did the math I realized that it does save us some. It is alot of work but I am passing the tradition on to my children. It is a lost art but it is starting to pick back up in popularity.

I have another job interview but it is for a job I am not crazy about. Kind of a big step down. Not sure how that is going to work. The pay kind of stinks. But it is honestly a no think job that I can do without much stress.
It is still hot out and that sucks. Glad the boys have camp since it is sooo hot they have something to do other than video games. We are all getting a bit bored and I think somewhat ready for school to start. Then I will say oh I am ready for a break !
My birthday is coming up and I will be 43. That is 2 yrs older than my DH was when he died. As I climb up the hill of age I am so very grateful for every year. Although when I filled out an application the other day they asked if I was over 40 (I guess due to age discrimination). Man made me feel old.
Yet as I said I am sooo grateful for every year is a true blessing.
Did I mention it is hot 101 today and we have baseball? UGH

It is in the 100s here lately too and our A/C keeps going in and out. We need to replace it but don't want to spend the money just yet. I have been talking with DD about what we spend our money on - do we need that or don't we? and yesterday she gave me her piggy bank and told me she wanted me to buy whatever I thought we needed with her money. Made me a little misty. But then I thought maybe she just wants a new air conditioner lol.

I did some canning with my MIL when I lived nearby and she still mails us boxes of jam and fruit. Such an awesome thing to know and pass down. Sandra, I just celebrated my 42nd. Time does tick by.
