For those that don't realize this, they are serious things if the bite is a deep puncture type. The other evening I was brushing one of our old girls (18 years old). She hates to be brushed but with her advanced age her grooming isn't the best. I put it off as long as I could stand. Anyway, I didn't hold her head properly at one point and she got my thumb. A deep puncture to the meat of the thumb and along the nail bed. It smarted but I didn't think anything about it. I washed it, put an anti-bacterial ointment on it and went to bed. The next morning the thumb was red and swollen. I look up cat bites on the internet and learned that you should seek immediate medical attention for the type of bite I got. Delay in seeking such attention could result in having to resort to IV drip antibiotics. Fortunately, I'm just on some scary high power ones with list of side effects as long as my arm. The up side is I'm protected from anthrax and the plague right now. I still can't use my right thumb but likely I'm left handed. So take warning.
