Flu shot? Tis the season....
Haylen_WebMD_Staff posted:
Flu season may begin as early as October and run through May. According to the Center for Disease Control, the best time to get a flu shot is in October or November .

DD tested positive when she was 2 and was so sick we almost had to have her hospitalized. I'd never considered the vaccine but gave my pediatrician "20 questions" and decided it was right for us.
4 year old and I will get the shot, 7 year old will get the flu mist next week. Husband declines my nagging.

Do you guys get them? Why or why not?

p.s. More info here including including types of shots/mists, how it works and side effects: Flu Shot: Influenza Vaccine and Side Effects

This is the first year we are getting them. Emily has had one before because she likes to scare us with 105 fevers. We didn't do one last year, and Emily ended up with Type A and B, and I ended up in the ER. I don't want that guilt again this year.

I got my shot yesterday, and both girls are going to the pedi tomorrow to get the mist. We'll se if it helps this year....

We all get the shot or mist at our house. Cristopher and myself both have Asthma. So we get the shot based on CDC recommendation. I have the others get the vaccinated as well just because. My SO gets the mist. He won't get a shot for anything. He isn't against vaccines just shots. He did see an add on TV for a flu shot that uses a really little needle. He asked me if he could do that this year instead of the mist. I have asked the Dr.'s office if they are going to order it. My Grandmother (who lives with us) gets the flu shot as well. She has gotten it for as long as I can remember. I have gotten the flu shot for at least the last 15 years maybe even longer. The kids have gotten the flu shot/mist every year after they were old enough to receive it. I work with the public alot and people come in sick all the time. I want to protect myself as much as I can. I take all 8 of us in at one time to get vaccinated.

On December 26, 2010 Emily was admitted to the hospital for the flu. Everyone had been vaccinated a few months before. I never want to have to go through that again. She was only 1.5 months so wasn't old enough to get vaccinated yet.

My SO's mom was hospitalized for 3 weeks with the H1N1 flu a few years ago. She almost died. She had never had a flu shot normal or the H1N1 that year.

The kids go to the flu clinic at their dr to get their shots at the end of September. DH & I will get the flu shot from his work who gives them for free in October. We get them because I really hate being sick & throwing up so if it can protect them & me even a little I will do it.

We get ours every year. The boys get the flu mist and I get the shot.
I do not want to risk it when there is a vaccine available.
I do dread though the somewhat yuk feeling for a couple days but that is way better than getting sick.
