Elf on the Shelf

This will be Oswald's 4th year visiting us, hopefully not the last. He usually makes his appearance around Thanksgiving. This means he often travels with us as we generally go to either Chattanooga or Scottsdale for Thanksgiving. I think it gives the story extra credibility that he makes his first appearance in a hotel room. I always have been able to get the staff to place him in the room before we get in it. This year he will be traveling to London with us though we will be renting an apartment so I will have to do some quick placement. When do your elves show up?

I haven't done that but maybe this year he show up. I hope that the boys believe a lot longer. I think I was like 10 or 11 before I stopped believing. But we had my brother then so I played along for quite awhile . I just hope kids at school do not reveal the secret before the kids are ready.

Wayne makes his first appearance right after Thanksgiving. I've ordered the Elf on the Shelf DVD so I think he'll show up with the movie this year.

Wally Hermie appears after Thanksgiving during our Thanksgiving break as well. Last year he wrote notes in toothpaste on the various bathroom mirrors which drove me nuts. Ava is anxious to see if he'll repeat this antic this year.

Our elf usually appears in the Christmas tree the morning after we put the tree up. That first morning, he sets out a festive breakfast (powdered donuts and hot chocolate) on Christmas dishes and leaves out all the kid's holiday books. He also leaves Christamas jammies and a note reminding them of his duties and the "rules" that must be followed in order for him to stay here.
My elf is the same elf that has been coming to my house since the year before I was born (my parents got it the year they got married). It's over 40 years old and I can't imagine a holiday with out him although he freaked me out until I was at least 7, maybe older. LOL! Long live Mr. Jingles!

locasta - great idea for the hotel room! Solidifying the fact that elf is watching everywhere!
We have "Star" who will show up perched on our 60's rock wall in the living room the day after Thanksgiving.
Hoping the 7 year old (who will be 8 on 12/26) will be a believer for another year!
