On Feb.1st I took Ryder to the dr for an ear infection. They gave me a prescription which I filled and gave to him that night. The next night he started waking up and walking around crying. He was pacing fractically between his bedroom and the bathroom and using the bathroom crayons to write letters on the shower walls. He said this made him feel better. This would happen between 2-4 times a night for almost 10 days. The past couple nights it's only been 1 time but still happening. I called the dr office and asked them about a side effect of the medicine and the dr said he never heard of that happening from this antiobiotic. He said if it keeps happneing to bring him in. I don't understand it. He was perfectly fine and then started this medicine and has not been himself since. He's so tired but fights going to sleep b/c of these nightmares and when he does fall asleep he's waking up at all hours. We feel so bad for him, my heart breaks watching him go through this every night.

Has anyone ever experienced this kind of side effect from an antiobiotic?

Is he actually awake, or is he sleepwalking? How much longer does he have on the antibiotic?

You might try calling the pharmacist and asking about side effects. Sometimes they are more familiar with the meds than the prescribing doctor.

That sounds miserable for all of you.

Wow that sounds kind of scary. I've never heard of it either but I do think calling the pharm is a good idea. Is he still on the med?

He was off the medicine since last Monday. The dr. said that if it is a reaction to the meds then it should be out of his system after 7 days. 7 days was this Monday. He had an episode Monday and Tuesday night. Last night he slept all night except to get up and pee. He has a sleep over tonight at his Aunti's house so I'm hoping it doesn't happen there.
