Poll: Summer Plans
iocasta posted:
Have you made plans? If so, what are they?

I have pretty much locked up Levi's summer. School's out on May 31st. We will have a week and a half family vacation, for which we will start before school is out because I miss read the schedule and it is too late to change our plans. When we get back, he will attend an 8 week day camp -- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This takes us to the first full week of August, for which I have nothing. Then he will attend a half day chess camp for a week followed by another week of family vacation. The final week of August he will have a week long half day Lego camp. School starts back up September 3rd. He will also have swim practice four to five days a week through out the summer.

It's almost embarrassing but, yes, we have the summer pretty much planned out b/c of the early enrollment for camps around here.

The kids get out on 6/12 and I've elected to give them the remainder of that week and the following week to just hang out with me and enjoy some of the amazing summer activities the bay Area has to offer. After that DD1 is will go to a week of her school's "sports camp" and DS and DD2 will do a half day tennis and swim camp at out club. The week after they will all go to a science/art camp.

We're taking a family trip the week of July 4th.

Once back in town DS will go back to the science camp for 3 weeks, DD2 to a half day gymnastics training camp and DD1 will start a three week theater intensive camp.

Then comes another family week and the end of July. We'll spend that at the cabin playing tennis, swimming and biking.

August brings on 2 weeks of sleep away camp for DD1 and DS and a week of one-on-one time with the wee one before she starts kindergarten. After camp ends we have a week and a half to collect ourselves and prepare for the start of the next school year.

It all seems to work out on paper and the kids are fired up about their camps and our family trips so I'm thinking it will be a great summer for all of us!

Sort of. I had to plan a bit early due to the enrollment of camps ect.
They get out May 24. So the boys go to the Y camp the week of Memorial day. Then in June summer school starts so they will do that in June. July is Y summer camp and they start back August 14. I thought a vacation in August sometime as my Mom wants to plan something.
So not sure what is going to happen. I have a feeling summer will go super fast. And the August 14 day is an earlier time as the school board voted to start earlier from this point forward.
I am thinking I will do some small weekend road trips throughout the summer as well. We have a lot of neat places to see within driving distance.

We are pretty much free, free, free!!!!

My Aunt is getting married and having a reception in June. We will go to it and stay a few extra days in a hotel. Other than that, no plans! We got season passes to Six Flags and will get a pass to the community water park. I'm so looking forward to doing what we want, when we want, with no strict schedule.

Work is crazy and I'm hoping to get some breaks this summer. DS will continue at preschool and we'll take a few long weekends and head to Cape Cod, Mass. My dad is retiring in May, so I anticipate DS will spend some quality time with 'Poppy'.

Right now, it's all about September. We're doing Disney and the Disney Cruise. I've got a countdown app on my iPad. Not sure how I'm going to wait 6 months.

No plans yet. Just last weekend we did an overnight trip to Baltimore with the kids. They have this awesome kids museum called Port Discovery Children's Museum, where everything is hands on play and it's geared towards kids 1-12 yrs old so there's something for everyone. My youngest is 16 months and she had a great time! That was our only plans so far this year.

For Easter, my husband's family is coming to visit. We haven't seen his sister's family since Thanksgiving, so it will be great to see them again. She's pregnant with the first grandson. Since they live in NC, we'll probably make a trip there some time after the baby is born in June.

MIOB: Let me know if you have any pointers for planning a Disney trip with a preschooler. We're looking into going next year sometime before DD#1 starts school.

Michael will be going to a 6 week boy scout camp. He is SOOO excited! His BFF from daycare is going with him as well.

Nathan is going to go to "school". The pre school we decided on for next year is a school for children with down syndrome. They have integrated classes with both kids with and without special needs. They actually have ONE class that has only 10 kids and it is for kids who have a speech or OT issue nothing more. He will be in this class....quieter and more low key. Anyway....since they are a special needs school, they have 6 weeks of school with water play for playground time. He will be doing that.

The rest of the weeks between school and camp, I have no idea what will happen yet.

We are going to my dads in Arizona for a week in June. We are super excited. I haven't been there in 10 years and it's just so beautiful I really wanted the kids to get there.

Work is really busy this summer so we are not allowed to take any vacations in July, August or Sept. So the rest of the summer will really suck.
seeit2 replied to crunk05177's response:
Crunk - I was wondering what you guys decided on with the integrated class. Sounds like you found the perfect fit!

We have no plans whatsoever except a possible visit by my mom in June for DD's birthday. I think my mom and my brother are considering moving from NY to Texas, which would be very very this trip is kind of a look-see. If it gets really boring this summer I may drive the kids to NY to see all of the grandparents, but I refuse to commit to that right now. I just got back from a road trip to Florida with the two of them and I don't want to think about doing it again right now.

Did you do the road trip by yourself with the 2 kids?
seeit2 replied to laney0705's response:
DH drove there with us then flew home after 5 days. I drove the kids back myself a few days after that. We got home Friday night.

DH got three days at home all by himself. Can you imagine?? 3 days home alone??? I would die for just a few hours right now lol!
