For the last few weeks, Elizabeth has been complaining about headaches. It won't be very bad, or require meds, but she'll just say her head hurts. Last week, she said her eyes hurt, too.

I'm wondering if she is going to need glasses. I called to make her annual checkup, and mentioned the headaches. The nurse told me to go ahead and make an appointment with an eye doctor.

I took Emily once, but it's been so long, I can't remember what tests they do at the eye doctor. Does anyone know? Will they dilate her eyes?

Any other ideas what the headaches could be?

I would bet it is her eyes as well. Logan was only 4-4.5 when he started having headaches and eye weariness but the consistency of the pain led us straight to the eye doctor. They did not dilate his eyes. He was given a picture version of the standard eye test and his doctor looked at his eyeballs several times with various instruments and lights. We left with a Rx and headed to the eyeglass store. Within a week he had his new glasses and all complaints about aches and eye pain were gone.

Every few appointments his Rx has changed a bit so he has needed new lenses every 9-18 months. Luckily the frames last size-wise a bit longer.

We just got back from the eye doctor, and her eyes are fine. They did have to dilate her eyes, but other than that she was good.

Since her eyes are fine, he thinks it may be migraines. There is family history of migraines, which also makes it more likely. I'll have to talk to her pedi about that on Friday at her checkup.

Now I'm wishing she did need glasses. I'm not sure if there is anything they can do for migraines.

Mrs W... I suffer from migraines and a lot of headaches. I keep hoping that I don't pass them on to the kids. Olivia suffers from a lot of headaches. Nothing like a migraine though.

Has anything changed or maybe she is worried about something? I hope that they get it figured out soon.

My great-grandmother, my grandmother and my mother suffer from migraines. Now I do too. They got worse after the birth of my second child. My DD has told me a few times her "head hurts." She goes about playing and won't mention it again so I have never had to give her any meds. I hope it stays this way for a while. Migraines are not fun and would hate for her to have to deal with them. Especially at such a young age. Good luck, I hope they figure something out that's fixable!
