So Nervous...and a little update

I'm sitting here waiting for the hospital to call when Jacob can come home probably today or tomorrow. I'm ready for him to come back but at the same time it has been so peaceful that he has been away. Such mixed emotions.

For the first time since I have faced the reality my son isn't normal I feel more in charge. Yesterday we had a team meeting with all of his therapists, doctors, providers and case managers. I let them know how hurt I was that for 6 weeks I have been saying that he was on a downward slide and we weren't able to get him services soon enough. We came up with a plan that will hopefully help him. They wanted to hospitalize him for at least 60 days but that would have turned into at least 6 months if not longer. I know that one day he will be looking at that stay but we're not ready for it right now. As providers they also didn't prepare him for that in the hospital they kept saying that he is going to go home. I really do have mixed emotions but am more optimistic.

I found a great resource in the PK to 3rd grade special education teacher at our school. She helps Cristopher but more importantly she listened and gave ideas and resources so that I can help teachers to understand that my kids are different and when I'm asking questions or saying my kids are whatever that they get it(well hopefully). Jacob's teacher this year has been horrible for communication. The special ed teacher will also attend any meetings with me to mediate if necessary. She does that with Cris but hadn't been with Jacob. It makes such a difference when she attends. The homeroom teachers are different when she is involved. I still have the long process of getting Jacob's IEP's completed but right now the school is willing to work with me so I am hopeful

Glad to hear things are coming together and that you have an ally in the school.

Optimism is a good thing to hold on to. I'm glad that some plans have been put in place to handle things going forward. Hopefully that will help both of you a lot.
