I buy bagged salads all the time. Anything that saves time is a plus in my book- why would anyone ridicule that. It's not as if you can add hours to the day, so you ahve to prioritze somewhere. I would think it's musch better to serve a fresh salad from a bag than canned vegetables if you are really trying to serve healthy food, but even canned vegetables are better than none at all.
It is so much simpler to open a bag of already washed salad greens than to have to wash and chop them- plus if they are organic, they are often so ridiulously sandy that I find them annoying- who wants to eat grit ( and yes, I know how to clean them and I also have a salad spinner)
I like buying bags of Romaine hearts and spinach the most- I use them as the base of many a tasty salad I make- I even have DH asking me to make salads- and he rarely used toeat them. Since we normally buy them to use as part of a dinner salad, there are realry any leftovers, but it sure woudl be nice if they could figure out a way to make the bags repel the moisture that makes them go bad once they are opened. If I don't finish a bg, I tkae the contens out, wrap them in bpaper towels and stick the whole thing back inthe bag- it gives them a little extra shelf life.
Like most recalls now, I think they are a product of the common neurosis affecting this country. The big spinach recall a few years ago that freaked everyone out and started the constant recalls turned out not to be from the spinach. I listen to the recalls to make sure that the supermarket isn't errant in leaving a recalled product on the shelf ( not every recall is wrong) but I'm not giving them up.
