Just thought I'd check in to see if anyone new was around! We had a blessed week at Winter Jubilee in SC last week and are now ready to get back on track with therapy.

My LO is about to go into a growth spurt, according to how much she was eating a week ago. She's slacked off significantly this past week. We've been trying to stay stretched and massaged, but it's difficult to keep up with two meetings a day, travel and motel rooms.

A tidbit about massage... my massage therapist is going to a seminar for cerebral palsy to find out how to help us, and others too! She has shown me a couple simple massages to help my LO's legs but will learn more to hopefully continue to help in the future. In just the past week, given the amount of time we were sitting, I began massaging her legs, no specific technique, and I was amazed at the lack of cramping she experienced! My MT tells me it keeps circulation going better and can also help prevent problems like arthritis and more later in life for her. It's not a cure all, but any little bit I can do to help is great!

Have a wonderful week!

That's really neat about the massaging... you'll have to share what your MT learns!! We don't do massage at all... just stretches mostly.

I'm glad to hear that you had a good/fun week!

Thanks Emily!

It was interesting. She said it mainly helps with circulation which has a lot of benefits. I'll update when she goes to her seminar in May. I was amazed that just a little bit kept her from getting cramps so frequently. (I can tell since being home and not doing it, that it was better when I did.)

I'm also going to an "In Service" training at our PT's office on 2/11 for kinesio taping on CP patients. (I just want to see what it's about.) Are you familiar with that at all? It gives a longer gentle stretch to muscles and has been used to benefit CP patients. It looks like a soft tape applied to the skin and the PT said it just stays on until it falls off. Not sure how many days it lasts. I'm looking forward to seeing what is said, and I'll post info about it here.

Have a wonderful day!

Dear Lisa,
I don't know if this discussion site is still active. I noticed most of the postings were about two years ago. I am a Grandmother to a beautiful and articulate 5 year old boy...who is not yet walking with cp. He also with high fevers has occassional febrile seizures. His drive to walk is amazing but upon leaving his walker, as he attempts to walk forward with a few steps, he ends up falling forward in the direction he is walking. He has no braces or special orthodic shoes. He walks with his walker...but left leg turns in. However, with a child's plastic grocery cart, his legs turn out wonderfully! My daughter feels his brain will correct his gait and although wth his age of 5, he does receive therapy at school...I feel it is not enough. My heart breaks so much as I try with every gentle persuasion to my daughter that he NEEDS some guidance in the form of a temporary brace or specialized shoes.

With all my heart, I pray one of you ladies will view this site again. With you young ladies working with your own beautiful little ones, I need from your experience and successes what could be applied to my Grandson for his benefit and future. He is very articulate and knows that he cannot walk or run with his kindergarten classmates yet...but there is no doubt in this Grandmother's heart and mind that with the right guidance and information and experience from others, he will get there soon.

I believe in Angels...and my heart is tired...but I have every intention that in 20 years, I will be dancing with my Grandson at his wedding...

Sincerely waiting for your thoughts-
Darma
