My 8 year old boy does not sleep through the night?

This seems it all started several months before he turned 8. He was getting up at least twice during the night and asking to sleep with us or asking to bring his top mattress in our room and sleep next to our bed. His excuse is always either he had a nightmare or he was scared. I also often hear him moaning, or whining and moving around while he is still sleeping. We have often allowed him to crawl in our bed or bring his mattress in our room so we didn't have to deal with getting up several times during the night or just so we could get rest

Things we have tried:

Turning off his TV 1 hour before bedtime
Having him lay quietly in his bed 1 hour before bedtime
Listen to soft music or music of his choice while falling asleep
Letting the TV stay on while falling asleep
Giving him sleepy time tea before bedtime
