Should I be concerned about the size of my child penis
An_221961 posted:
I have three sons. I am concerned about my 8 year old penis. Last year we had to have him circumcised because his skin would not pull back. My question and my concern is that his penis is very small, like a little button; while my others sons even the baby are not. They all take a bath together and he asks me why his penis is so small.I don't know what to answer. I say things will change when you grow up. Should I be worried and concern.? Should I go see a specialist. Will things change as he grows.

Why not ask his doctor?
By the way, many boys cannot pull back their foreskin until they are well into their teens. This is perfectly normal.

How old are your other boys? Why is your son still bathing with siblings at 8? Is he an overweight child? Overweight children (and adult men) often appear to have a small penis due to the fat pad around it.
As far as I know there is nothing legitimate to increase penis size in children.

Life Cycle of a Penis
Talk to his pediatrician who will know if there are other complicating factors in children.

A small-appearing penis in an 8 year old child may be a matter of context if he has a large frame or if he is overweight. Most typically, it is a normal variant. However, there is a condition known as "micropenis" that is associated with various rare genetic or endocrine (hormonal) conditions.
If this has been an issue since infancy, then it may increase the likelihood of an underlying medical condition. You should discuss your concerns with your pediatrician, who will want to examine your son and should measure his penis. If you feel like you want a second opinion, I would suggest you consider seeking out a pediatric endocrinologist for a consultation.
An average penis in an 8 year old boy when stretched gently and measured from the bone at the base to the tip is 2.4 or 2.5 inches, and it would be considered abnormally small if it measures 1.5 inches or less. When measuring, be sure to push down on the surrounding fat pad to get to to the base.
Hopefully, your measurements will be re-assuring, but I would encourage you to discuss this issue (with measurement in hand) either way.
For parents who have concerns about their child's penis size, a table of normal penis size in prepubertal boys is available at many websites, including this one:

8 year old boys are not known for their modesty.

Lol, agree with Boyzmomee, my son is perfectly happy to be naked at all times, if we let him. He lives in shorts only, even in the winter in the house.
The only reason he wears underpants to school is because I told him it was a school rule!?! He doesn't understand why anyone would need 2 bottoms!!

Dr. Adesman,
I am concerned about my 10-yr old. HIs penis size has not grown since birth much at all., My two year old has a larger penis. He was on high dose ORAPRED for Nephrotic syndrome for about 2 years from ages 2-4.5. Do you think that may have affected his size? His pediatrician states this is normal and wait until puberty. Should I be worried? He is having self complex issues, especially with little brother

I have a seven year old grandson with the same problem. His penis is just a button compared to his male cousins. I first noticed it when he was an infant and caught a glimpse of it a few times when he was visiting. I also noticed that he is gaining weight and now it looks like he has breasts. His mother is trying to keep him eating healthy and he is learning about nutrition.
He loves to ruff house with his cousins but whenever he does a little physical activity, he sweats so much that his hair and clothing get soaked. I heard one of his cousins call him a girl because he "has boobies". I'm worried that he is being teased at school. What can I do as a grandmother?
