Hair loss in a 4 year old

My daughter is having a lot of hair loss, she can just comb it and it comes out, I can run my fingers through her hair it comes out. She has thin hair on one side and the other side is really thick, she even has a bald spot, but when her hair is wet you can see her scalp. I have taken her to the doctor they have taken blood and everything came back ok. But I don't know what else could be causing this any ideas.

Just a thought, but do you think she maybe pulling it out ?

Do you see her "playing" with her hair ?

There is an anxiety driven behavior called trichotillomania, here is a blurb about it:

I may be way off base, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

Take care and good luck with your research!

I just was wondering if she might still have very fine hair and so any hair shedding looks like a lot.

No her hair is pretty thick on one side. The other side is a little thin but it falls out on both sides.

If she is pulling it out you'll probably notice that she's doing what we like to call the hair twirl on one side of her head. to us it might look like just playing with hair but if she's got anxiety she might very well be twisting it until it comes out clean.

My daughter did this. Feel free to get at me with any questions.

Hi....my 4 year old daughter does the hair twirling on one side and she pulls it. I am worried because I don't know why she is doing this. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

As I responded to the first poster.....it can be a stress condition called trichotillomania. Here is a great support/info site:

http://www.trich.org/

Please look into this further, as it will not just go away on its own.

Take care,
-Kathleen
