She makes a shriek when I change her

Ammunite posted:
For a while, my daughter has been making these really shrill, shrieking noises for no reason. Lately, though, it's only been when I change her diaper. She squirms, then lets out a high pitch shriek, like she's been gasping for air for so long it just comes out as a screech. Her chest also caves in right between her ribs. It only lasts about a second or two, but she does it at least three or four times while I'm changing her. I think she has reflux, and my husband thinks she's doing it because of that. She's been gaining weight, and normally a very happy baby that just spits up everywhere constantly. We've seen several different pediatricians over her spitting up and they all said it was normal, but we havent taken her in over this whole shrieking and her chest caving in. What could it possibly be? She doesnt do it any other time, only when I change her diaper.

Roy Benaroch, MD responded:
She shrieking because it's noisy and it's fun and it makes you jump and look concerned. If you want her to stop it, you must ignore it.

She lies down plenty of other times (other that diaper changes) and presumably doesn't shriek then. That's reassuring-- this doesn't sound like anything to worry about.

Best of luck!
