Yes, my son swallowed a quarter 48 hrs ago and he has not passed yet. He just went to the bathroom and the coin still inside his body. What would you recommend a good time to wait would be to go back to see the Doctor. He already got x-rays yesterday and it shows that the quarter is in his intestines. Thanks for any advice!

Roy Benaroch, MD responded:
Quarters usually pass without problems. If there is an issue, it's when the quarter gets stuck way up high in the esophagus, before it gets to the stomach. You said that the xrays had already showed that the quarter passed the esophagus and stomach-- so it's very unlikely that it will get stuck or cause problems in any way.

Thanks Dr. Benaroch tonight it would be 6 days and the quarter has not come out. It is a relief to hear that it will come out and will not cause problems. How many more days do you think we should wait? or do we need to take other X-Rays? I really appreciate your professional help. - Pablo

I can only give general advice here, not answers specific to each individual case. Pegm, I think you ought to get in touch with your doctor, or whoever ordered the 1st xray, to find out what they suggest for followup. Best of luck!
