    High Cholestrol in kids..

I have a 9 year old son, his cholestrol is 209. We have been trying to lower this by "diet" for about a year with no results. He is not happy because he can't eat the foods he wants and he is heavy only through the middle. He is very active and plays Lacross at the moment and has practice 2 times a week. So its not that he is'nt active. I just wondered if anyone has tried medications for children with this situation? I read about them not knowing what the long term side effects are in kids. I don't know what to do I feel so bad for him....thanks for any info on this subject.....

2 times a week exercising is not enough. He needs to be getting physical activity everyday, to the point where he sweats.

Obviously the diet isn't working. Most cholesterol levels in kids can be reduced by diet and exercise but you have to maintain it and be his guide. I can imagine that this is extremely difficult for him, especially when he sees his friends eating what they want and he can't have any.

I would contact a doctor and a nutritionist to give you more advice and guidance. If you can do this without medication, then you should.
