I just wanted to let everyone in on a little update my step daughter is now living with us full time which has had some getting used to for all of us, but well worth it! Her mom is not part of her life at all this is by her choice (the MOM) all I can do is make sure my step daughter knows its her loss. This has caused issues sometime she closes everyone off and shows NO feelings but we are trying are best to work on things. Please feel free to give me your advice and tips....

The best advice is to find a well qualified psychologist who does
FAMILY BASED THERAPY. It can make all the difference between a struggling blended family and one that works more cohesively together.

Take care,

Well, sounds like your stepdaughter is so fortunate to have you in ler life. And, I'm sure your heart must be breaking for her as she deals with the pain of not seeing her mother.

As far as advice goes, I'd definitely second the suggestion to look into some counseling for her, or your family, if you haven't already. Usually, a counselor can be pretty good at getting kids to open up about how they're feeling.

Also, I'm not sure if you're a reader or not, but during my time at Focus on the Family I heard that the book The Smart Step-Family by Ron Deal had a lot of great insight on helping blended families adjust to the transitions in their lives. And, this article I came across might also help you in talking to your stepdaughter about her mom's absence. Just FYI.

Well, your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there!
