Census question

Does anyone know how you are supposed to answer the race section if you are hispanic? I know there is a seperate question for hispanic descent but I'm not sure what race to mark, or should I write in other for my DH? I believe it says that hispanic doesn't count as a race so what race should he be then? And how do I signify that DD is both white and hispanic and make it clear that she is both? TIA

You can check multiple boxes. I checked Black and Asian on mine. I don't know about the Hispanic part. Write in other if you don't know.

For my DD, I put white for race and under Hispanic ethnicity I put Cuban (one of the choices). I figured that was enough info for them to figure it out. :)

I checked two boxes, black and white, for my kids. I noticed that the choices for hispanic seemed to be numerous, but didn't really look at it to closely because we're not hispanic- and I was filling it out in a bar on St Patrick's day- DH is Irish. I think the whole thing could have been a little clearer. I'm sure there are plenty of biracial and mulitracial people who will not check multiple boxes and not be represented properly.

LOL! Filling out your census at a bar on St. Patrick's Day?! I love it!

I was really surprised by the extensive choices for Hispanic ethnicity. It was divided up by country of origin. Not sure why they'd need to know that, but I guess they do.

I have no free time, but that day the kids were in daycare and DH and I were out celebrating.

I did it early in the afternoon so the repsonses are correct and legible!

About the hispanic choices, the cyncial, conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the racists wanted to know exactly where they should put the biggest borders!!

The happy optimist in me hopes that the detail is that we can have a more accurate view of the melting pot that this country is and was meant to be! :-0

I ended up selecting mexican under the Hispanic section and then white for race and also selecting other and writing in 'mixed-Hispanic'. From what I read it sounds like the Census people were expecting all the Hispanic people to check other and write in Hispanic- so why not include that as an option? Oh well, we won't have to do this again for another 10 years (I think).

Lol, for my daughter I ended up choosing: Hispanic, White, Asian/Japanese, Mexican American (chicano).

I had the same problem, I was really confused by that part. My DH is from Argentina. I didn't know what to put for the race. Is he considered white? I also didn't understand why they asked a separate question for hispanic people for the origin. What does it matter? Whatever, I filled it out the best I could and sent it in.
