I have to fill out a form every year for my kids to go to school. When it comes to the race question on the forms I have the choice of caucasion, black, asian, native american, etc. I don't have a choice for other. So I pick caucasion. Then on the next line I have to pick from American eskimo, Latitno (not Hispanic), east asian, etc. No choices for Mexican do you see? Because I would choose Latino but is says not Hispanic. My kids are half white and half Mexican, where is the "other" line? Where is the line to say my child is Mexican and white? And do these people who make up the forms for us to fill out not realize that soon there will be many children who do not fit into their guidelines? Soon enough there will be more mixed children then not, three or more boxes to be checked, not just one? It's already happened in my life. A white guy has a kid with a Mexican woman and they have a child. Half and half, right? But now this boy had a child with a black woman. Said is going into school next year, what box do they check on the government list? Black? Caucasion? Latino, but not hispanic? (because remember there is no box for Mexican...)?
Does anyone else out there think like I do? Do you have problems filling out forms? What do you do when your child doesn't fit into the boxes that someone made?
