Wow! I am so glad that people are starting to use this board again! I was just thinking about it the other day as I tried to comb through DD's increasingly tangled hair. For the longest time I could just use a wide tooth comb and pick through it, but I think those days have come to an end! I saw Kfitz's post about conditioner which should be helpful and I am going to go re-read prior posts to look for tips, but in the mean time if anyone has ideas on how to best care for hair, I would appreciate advice! DD has moderately curly hair that is pretty soft so I don't think it is particularly dry. It gets tangled at the ends easily and is becoming hard to get a comb through. Also, on the back of her head it tends the hair is shorter where I think it is breaking off. Thanks in advance!

I used the Sliken Child Conditioner from Sallys for dd#1. Her hair is soft, but SUPER dry. I only wash it once a week, but I have to put oil moisturizer on it every 2-3 days. I can actaully run my fingers thru her hair when I get her out of the tub without product!

Thanks, I will look into that. I recently got DD a diff shampoo/conditioner and am using a spray on detangler and that seems to be working for now. Have you had any trouble with her hair breaking off in the back?

Last I heard from you, you were expecting DD #2, and trying to come up with names. What did you end up naming her?

Alayna's hair does break off in the back. I think its from her car seat and from her pillow. I have heard you should try silk sheets and pillowcases to prevent it, but I haven't tried that yet.
We had DD#2 in August and we named her Avery. Her hair is much dryer than Alayna's and we use the oil moisturizing lotion on her.

I'm biracial, and my husband is biracial as well. Our daughter has really thick dry hair. I've been using Loreal Detangular and it helps with the tangles, but I need something that will help with the dryness. I have heard to put grease and pink lotion and other stuff. I'm thinking that since she's only 6 months I don't want to put all that stuff on her hair and weigh it down. I'm wonder if there are any suggestions on a hair product that conditions and doesn't make her hair feel greasy. I also wanted to start putting her hair in pig tails, but I don't want to have a lot all over her head. Wondering if there are any suggestions for this as well. Thanks in advance.

I love the silken child conditioner from Sallys. I use the johnson's conditioning shampoo and then the silken child. It makes my DD's hair easier to comb right out of the bath. I don't think its tear free though so be careful. I use the "just for me" detangler and the "just for me" oil moisturizing lotion too on my older DD, but the latter does cause her hair to feel greasy. She is 18 months and the lotion will make her hair feel greasy for about a day, then her hair absorbs it and it is dry again.
I started putting my dd#1's hair in pigtails when she was about 4 months, but she only had hair on top of her head so I would only put two pigtails on the top of her head and I would leave the rest down. I haven't done that with dd#2 yet since her hair isn't as long.

I may have to try that. The other day when I washed her hair, I just put biosilk in her hair, and it made it really soft and managable w/o having to use the detangler (which makes her hair curl up even more). I just think her hair was still a little on the dry side.
