foster/adopting bi-racial children

my husband and i are discussing doing foster care to adopt for multi-racial children since i found out many non-"white" kids, are shipped out to bigger cities because people in more rural areas are un-willing to take these wonderful children. Many times that means being shipped away from any family they have left that maybe can't take care of them(grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) I was absolutely appalled when i heard this. i couldn't believe people STILL thought like that. I am white as is pretty much my whole family, but I was raised embroiled in other cultures. My sister married Native American and I married Latino...lol. Anyways, my husband and i want to give a good home to some kids who maybe haven't had good beginning, but need a good family and keep them near to what is left of their family. i would like peoples opinions on this who already have multi-racial families. comments and personal stories are greatly appreciated. thank you

amie02086,

What a wonderful thing you are doing, I live in a bigger city and I know that it would be horrible for these kids to be sent away from the area they know and love. Remember to not limit yourself in the children that you will take in, keep an open mind as far as if they ask you to take a child of a completely different race. I have a friend who fostered over 800 children before she found her "perfect babies" all 4 of her children are african american and terminally ill. She loves these kids no matter what and doesn't see race at all, now people around her asked if she adopted them because she "gets money from the state" since apparently in our state you get money every month if you adopt a child outside of your race, to me it kind of defeats the purpose of adopting a child but that is my opinon only. I do believe there is an adoption board here and they may have more information than I do but I must say my hat is off to you for thinking of helping out the less fortunate children in your area.
