My husband had DBS surgery 5 1/2 years ago. It was a miracle. He had 4 good years before his symptoms of freezing and balance began to get worse and the side effects of his medicine were worse than the Parkinson. He has had Parkinsons for 33 years and the doctors no longer know what is the best treatment for him. He had a severe tremor before the DBS surgery and it stopped the tremor completely. He still has very little tremor. The DBS does not help with the balance and freezing. Hope this helps with the decision on Deep Brain Stimulation.
