i think that the vet who prescribed the penicillin for your cat should have told you how much to give him. You need to contact your vet and ask them. Isn't there a dosage on the bottle of penicillin of how much to give your cat?

The medication may be expired honestly if it's a few years old. If it is something like liquid amoxicillin (Biomox, Amoxidrops, etc.) or a mixture (Clavamox), it does not last more than a month constituted. If it's an injectable solution, you would need to contact the vet to figure out a dosage although they more than likely will tell you not to do it (and it's probably expired too). Depending on why your cat is sick, it could just be a band-aid on what is causing his symptoms. Is he lethargic, having diarrhea, vomitting? Is he urinating more frequently or is it blood tinged? How old is he? With elderly cats, we worry about kidney issues which antibiotics generally do not fix or cure. Penicillin can also not be very effective against certain types of problems as well such as skin issues or urinary tract problems.

Without knowing the concentration of penicillin or the weight of your cat, there's no way to know how much to give. As already mentioned, most liquid antibiotics would be expired by now anyway. Since you don't know what's wrong with your cat, there also no way to know if penicillin would help. See if the local humane society or shelter has a clinic and take your cat in for an examination. It's really the only way to help him.
