Should Michael Vick be allowed to own a dog?
avatar
Will Draper, DVM posted:
So - Michael Vick said, in a recent video interview, that he "would love to get another dog in the future". For those who don't know (or were trapped in a hole for the last 3 years) Vick, the present Eagles quarterback and serious NFL MVP contender, served 18 months in prison after being convicted in 2007 on animal cruelty charges (based on his involvement in a Virginia dog-fighting ring). I guarantee you that there are many people, after seeing the interview, who will be buying cardboard posters with paint and markers?ready to picket in front of the Vick household(s) and Eagles stadium in staunch protest. Some, however, will feel that he's paid his debt and should be given another chance to prove that he does love dogs, as he has claimed many times.

What do YOU think?
Dr. Will

Animal abuse is discarded which really bothers me. Animal abusers have been proven to also be child abusers. Okay, maybe Vick doesn't abuse children but, to me, he has proven that he has no regard for life by fighting dogs. When you realize that dogs have approx. 85% of the same DNA we have and the average intelligence of a 4 to 5 year old, you hopefully realize the seriousness of hs crime. That said. Vick should never be allowed to own a pet of any kind. If his kids think that's unfair, then they should ask their father why.

Please do not allow this man to own a dog. I don't believe he could "love" dogs and do what he did with them. I don't think he changed.......

He should not be allowed to be anywhere around dogs, let alone own one. No one who did what he did could even remotely love or even slightly like dogs.He should never ever have been allowed to return to the NFL either!! that is a job for men who have high standards and role model character, not convicts

Big fat NOOOOOOO thats like giving a sex offender a person to abuse. He has proved that he cannot be entrusted with man's best friend. He abused horribly and reformed or not should not be allowed to own a dog. He has shown no caring for the ones he hurt. Anyone can say they are sorry, doesn't mean he means it. Maybe he should poor money and work into rescues and show he is sorry! We have to protect the furries they cannot protect themselves.

NO WAY!! The things he permitted, payed for, allowed to happen to defenseless dogs are unforgivable. I don't care who you are!! He is not sorry, only sorry he was caught. He and all his "little friends" should never have been out of jail, let alone own ANY living thing!! He is a discrace to mankind and the NFL. This kind of stupid behavior has to stop. If he is truley sorry, he would be an advocate for the cause! he should be out there using his money to find and stop the other idiots that continue this horrible, horrible treatment of these poor dogs. He should fund a no kill shelter for them, and provide a life for them that they deserve. Not running up and down the football field like nothing ever happened!!

hell no, if he serious let him be forgiven by GOD', but he should be given a chance to harm any other animal, especially one that cannot speak for themselves, there are too many unknown sickies harming these angles without a well known one adding to the evilness of what he has done.

renron responded:
NEVER! He has already proved his type of care for animals...

No, absolutely not! He does not deserve another chance as far as I am concerned. There are too many animals in the world today that are abused, unwanted and end up in shelters and put down because there isnt enough people to give them a second chance. Why should someone like Michael Vick be given a second chance most of the animals dont get one! My mother always said a leopard never changes his spots so that said he should have never been let out of prison for what he did let alone get another chance at his career!!!

I think he needs to spend a lot of time working with the animal police, the aspca and the hsus; let them see how "rehabilitated" he actually is. See how dogs react to him; and him to them. I believe he is a cold hearted person that would still be torchering dogs if he was not caught doing it; money is the motivator but you have to be a heartless cold person to do the things he did; and what he allowed others to do as well. So without unequivacle ok by the ASPCA and HSUS, he should NEVER own ANY pet; EVER.

prove himself, how? by getting the chance to abuse again? if he wasn't caught, he would still be doing the same abuse. you have to be a cold heartless person to just hit an animal once! let alone the horrible things this man has done; and the fact that people are ok with him - is beyond comprehension; why? because he can play football? He should work with dog thru the HSUS and ASPCA first and should have had to donate lots to rescue shelters in this country and work with the very type of dogs that have been thru the hell he created for so many; then if he proves himself under the Aspca/Hsus and they truly believe in him; he could have one on supervised probation, much like you would a child.

you are so right. what does it say about football fans; that as long as you are a winning player; the fact that you are a sick, twisted abuser of animals; is not important? what is wrong with people; this man should have been booed in every stadium he played in; and especially by any football fan that is a true animal person; and those who own dogs even more so.

I so agree with you; any judge that allowed this sick person; who is so cold that rather then pay for the care of the dogs that actually lived thru the hell he put them thru; he filed for bankrupty! That same judge should have stipulated that this jerk pay best friends the minute he made a dime; and pay them millions for the care of these dogs; most of whom, despite the torture he put them thru; are sweet loving dogs now. Oh yeah he talks to kids, because he HAS to; he should HAVE to pay and pay part of his millions for playing a game to best friends; and should have had to work with abused dogs with supervision; lets see how much he cares. And YES Vick; tell your daughter what a monster you are!!!

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! A leopard can not change their spots.....period! For his children....POO!!!! Where were those children when he was doing such horribly, cruel, atrocious, abusive, things to those beautiful, loving pitty's? Did they get to be privy to this disgusting cruelty upon such sweet dogs? Maybe it is, that Vick wants to start another dog fighting ring, and his children now want it too. I'm terrible saying such things? What about the dogs he did this to? This terrible, cruel, non human, not only has gotten a second chance, playing in the NFL and serving very little time, for the cruelty he inflicted, but of the 51 pitbulls seized from his place, luckily 47 of them DID get a second chance, but what of the other 4 dogs? They never even had one single chance at a loving, kind, gentle life. For everyone of those 4 dogs, this inhuman should have to suffer...ten fold! He has not!! Now he wants another dog??? NO WAY! Supervised or not.....never, never should he be allowed to have his filthy, cruel hands touch another dog. Look into his eyes....they tell not the truth! They are false eyes! Look! Look real deeply into them.....

Absolutely not! Never! Just because he has "paid his debt" doesn't erase what horrible things he did personally, as well as what he permitted employees to do.
