My English Setter has Chronic Prostatitis
JoesBirdDogs posted:
Is there any cures for Chronic Prostatitis besides Castration.I want to do what's best for him.
Will Draper, DVM responded:
First, I'd recommend having a work up done to make sure there are no other causes for the prostatitis. A urinalysis and urine culture may be in order, and sometimes a long course of antibiotics may help. A biopsy may also be necessary to rule out prostate cancer, or BPH (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia). The latter is where the prostate is enlarged due to long-term testosterone exposure.

However, in any case, neutering (castration) is going to be a part of the treatment protocol. If you want to do what's best for him, make an appointment and be ready for this recommendation from your veterinarian (if you've not received such already). Good luck!
