I have a Chihuahua and Min-Pin mix, she is big for her breed mix.

We used to feed her Purina dry dog food and she would go only once a day, which I found normal. But recently, she has been going #2 three to maybe four times a day ever since changing her food to Blue Buffalo canned food. Should we be concerned that she is going so many times?

Also, I have read that if there is less nutritional value in the food than your body will just pass the it through without absorbing anything, which is why you go so much. Is this true? and Should we change her food because of that?

Hi,

I have fed my dogs premium dry food for many years. It has been my experience that the cheap foods with lots of filler tend to create more waste.

I am wondering if switching from dry to canned has upset your dogs system? A little too rich or too much fat? I believe Blue Buffalo to be a good, premium food. Have you tried the dry food? or have you tried mixing the canned with dry? You may have to do a little experimenting.

I think I may try to mix BB dry food with the canned. I just hesitate, being a new dog owner, to make any changes to her diet so that I do not disturb her system.

Thank you for your advice.
