Elbow Dysplasia - Seeking info on "PAUL" Surgery

Jessman1003 posted:
My 22 month Labrador Retriever suffers from Elbow Dysplasia (fragmented coronoid process & medial compartment disease).
She's undergone two arthroscopies, as well as ACP injections. She is on a Glucosamine supplement (Cosequin DS), and has been in Hydrotherapy for 4 months. All of this in hopes that we would see improvement in her condition.
I took her in about 6 weeks ago for a follow up with the orthopedist and unfortunately her condition has only worsened. She's developing bone spurs and her limp is still fairly significant. Given that she is not even 2 years, the orthopedist does not want to perform an SHO and is instead considering a procedure called a "Proximal Abducting ULnar Osteotomy (PAUL)"
I trust this doctor, yet would like more opinions. I have tried finding more infomation online regarding studies/success rates of this procedure and have not had any luck.
So here are my questions - to vets and/or pet owners:
- Has anyone heard of, performed, or had a pet undergo this procedure? And if so:
- What have you heard regarding its success rates? Or if you've performed one or had a pet undergo, was it successful?
- What kind of complications have you heard of and/or seen?
- Are there any known issues that may occur later on if the procedure is (initially) successful?
Any other thoughts and comments are welcome.
