One night I did notice that when she was doing her coughing/hacking/sniffling thing was that her little nose was running. I took her to the vet and he prescribed a daily allergy pill (not Benadryl). It did help a bit but still once in a while she did her noise-making because of her weak trachea. Urging her to get a drink of water and calm down and patting her (like you are doing now) is also very good.
