Question about Rabies Vaccination

I'm planning on taking my dog to Japan.
My dog has already had a rabies vaccination 2 months ago (didn't get his new micro-chip implanted yet), and he's had his second one a month after that (new micro-chip implanted).

From what I've heard, you need two rabies vaccinations after a new micro-chip has been implanted. Is it safe for my dog to get another rabies vaccination? (If I do let him get another vaccination shot, this is his 3rd within 3 months, is this safe?)

I have absolutely never heard of needing a rabies vaccination after a microchip implant. They're sterile (the microchips) and I can't even begin to draw a conclusion between the reasoning behind what you've heard. Call the company you're getting the chip from if you want but there isn't a reason to give him another vaccine that isn't needed.

Apparently it's the Japanese government that made the rule for dogs to have 2 rabies vaccinations after they have a new microchip implanted.

I was just wondering if it would be safe having 3 within 3 months

There are a lot of countries that require the Rabies vaccine to be given before travel and after a microchip. This has to do with identification as well as protection. Some countries do not have rabies at all and would like to keep it that way. Unless your dog has had reactions to the rabies vaccine before, It should not be a problem at all. We have to do this frequently at our clinic.
