bowel obstruction

My cat may have eaten part of a thin plastic bag. He's been throwing up his undigested food for the past 2 days (some of it with pieces of plastic bag in it) and recently has been vomiting a yellow liquid. He appears to not be able to have a bowel movement although he has tried in the last hour or so. Is there anything that I can give him to help this get through his system?

Drew Weigner, DVM, ABVP responded:
Unfortunately, it sounds like he has an intestinal obstruction. There's no oral or injectable medication that will treat this condition as it usually requires surgery to resolve. Since an obstruction can be fatal if not treated immediately, please take your cat to a veterinary emergency clinic right away!

Thanks for your response. Our cat has been in the emergency pet hospital in NYC since late Saturday night. He seemed to be doing a bit better but has taken a turn for the worse. Not sure what to do at this point other than wait it out.
