Comfortis for fleas

Mylittlelucy posted:
My dog has had some adverse reactions to topical flea treatments. The vet has given her Comfortis 270 mg tablet. take 1/2 orally once month.

He states he has done much research on this, and has discussed it with colleagues, and is very confident that it is safe and effective. I am so afraid to give her anything that might cause her tiny body to have a bad reaction. She is a Shih Tzu, and is 6 1/2 lbs. She currently has fleas and I have been bathing her weekly this past month to help. (I know it isn't good for her to have such frequent baths).

I am at my wits end with trying to figure out how to treat her, the house, the yard...

First, please let me know what you think about this drug...

Second Please let me know what works well for treating yard/house... any natural remedies? Anyone out there use Food Grade Diatamicious earth? Is that safe?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Mylittlelucy,
Sorry to hear about all the problems you are having. I just wanted to tell you about my experience with flea medications. I have a 6 year old pomeranian and 10 month old english bulldog, which i never had any luck with spot on treatments so i switched to comfortis after hearing how well it worked. Well, it did work, but with nasty side effects my HEALTHY pom would have seizures from it and my bully could not keep any food down. After researching more about comfortis i realized these were both "common" side effects seen. I was horrified, i stopped the treatment immediately and decided to only use an all natural flea shampoo for weekly baths. I also found a product called Fleadom that really works for me. It is all natural and odorless (which is an added bonus) but most importantly no bad side effects. It's worth a shot. I believe their site is www.getfleadom.com for more about their products. I just wanted to tell you about my experience in hopes of avoiding you and your baby any problems. Best of Luck! Let me know how everything goes.

From a very protective pet parent,
Tara

thank you for your update, how often after you gave the pill did the side effects start? Did they go away once you stopped. Was it after the first treatment? i did give it to her. No reaction yet, but it has only been 2 days. I am so worried that I made the wrong decision. I will look at your alternative treatments. Thank you so much for the advice, I am so sorry to hear about your guys. How are they now? Any more information you can offer would be greatly appreciated. How do you treat the house? Thanks.

I tried the website, nothing is coming up. I just can't wait for flea season to END! What shampoo are you using? Thanks!
