How much baby Benadryl can a dog have?

I have a 2 1/2 yr old male Snorkie, and he weighs approximately 20 lbs. I have been contemplating on whether to give him a baby Benadryl for his severe allergies. The poor thing keeps scratching and biting all day and night, and I know it is not fleas. If I were to give him a capsule, what dosage and how many times a day should I give it to him? Is there a specific dosage for certain breeds or weight of dogs? Please help!
