My dog tank is a 7 year old male Jack Russel- Chihuahua mix, for the past few nights he has been screaming(that's the only way i can explain it, its like nothing I've ever heard before.) he just keeps screaming over and over, if i touch him or try to pick him up he screams louder as if a response of pain to me doing so. I can calm him down by putting him closer to me and shushing him like a baby petting him....but its still loud and drawn out. What is wrong with him and what can i do??? I am extremely concerned.... the only prescription he takes is "Iverhart" heart-worm preventative.

Odd, lots of screaming dogs right now. I advise you to read the postings below suggesting that this might be because of a collapsed windpipe. It might not be the problem, but it's worth a look.

There are also ones much more similar to your dogs situation further down in the discussions. They are experiences where the dogs began screaming in their sleep just as yours did. You might check those out as well.

So It's his neck....whenever he sleeps a certain way (which he likes to sleep in unfortunately) he gets a strain in his neck, but after he stretches and plays he is fine. It is something that will heal with time.

Glad you found what the problem was. Hopefully a vet confirmed that. If it had been a recurrantly collapsing windpipe, that would have been serious and caused a loud screaming sound.
