My male English Springer Spaniel will be 8 years old early this summer. I need to know have I waited to long for him to see the benefits of being spayed? He is healthy presently but am contemplating having him spayed - but if I have waited to long for him to have the benefits of having this procedure done then I don't want to go any further. HAVE I WAITED TO LONG?

He won't be making testosterone anymore and that will help reduce the risk of behavior problems and reduce the risk of certain cancers. It may not prevent him from adult male behaviors such as wandering, but it will obviously prevent him causing pregnancy. The benefits aren't as great if you neuter them at an older age, but but there are still benefits.
