Staple question
Jtwestern posted:
My 2.5 y/o cut her lag yesterday. The Vet put in 7 staples and the wound is closed, clean, and looks great. She was placed on amoxicillin and I forgot to ask if its ok for her to hike and walk and play. They said to just keep her from licking it. The wound is on the right hind leg, above the bend, inside/front of the thigh.

She runs and walks well and is doing fine. Just wanted to know if I can take her for her regular hikes and stuff.

Will Draper, DVM responded:
Jt: I'd recommend restricting activity for at least 7 days. I usually recommend 10 days- and would consider that for your dog since, with 7 staples, it's probably a fair sized wound. Allowing her to resume normal activity too soon could cause the wound to dehisce (open up), which means another trip to the vet to reclose it. Hope this helps...WD
