dog kicking gulping
greeneyedglow posted:
I am up at 2 am. Woke up by my dog sounding like she is choaking. Gulping, licking the air. She had gas farted earlier tonight with isn't usual of her she's 3 and this is her 1st episode. Very scary. I hope this doesn't happen again.
Bernadine Cruz, DVM responded:
Dear Greeneyedglow,
Hope your eyes are glowing red from lack of sleep and this episode has not repeated itself since you posted this note. From your description I can't give you a definitive diagnosis but several concerns come to mind. If this only happened that one time, we may never find the cause. If it continues, I would strongly recommend that you seek medical attention and a hands on physical. Pets can have a condition known as a reverse nasal drip can be the cause. An upset stomach/nausea can result in a pet licking the air as well as seizures. As you can see, the possibilities run the gamut. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian if you continue to see these signs.
Best of luck....
