We've had our kitty for about a year now and since we got her fixed the hair on her belly never grew back after the operation. We noticed that she has licked a lot since we got her, especially in that area. Well, she began licking and itching to the point that puss came out of her eyes, her eyes became swollen, her jaw was almost black and she was cutting herself up from scratching.

We took her to a vet and they told us it must be an allergic reaction. So, we changed her diet to a food we buy from the vet, we've put a cone on her, but things seem to be getting worse. My wife read online about mites and after consulting the doctor we decided to do a mite treatment once a month.

It's been about a month since then and she doesn't seem better. With the cone on she can't scratch and just hides and sleeps all day. When we take the cone off of her to clean her she tries to scratch and would if we allowed her to. It seems like this itching is seriously driving her nuts and I don't know what to do. I don't know if I should just continue down the path we've started or if we need to try something new. I have all kinds of pictures I can provide I just need someone to help. I appreciate it. Thank you!

Have you ruled out something like yeast problems, mites, or things like that? Sometimes the food you get from the vet has just as many allergens as anything else. Maybe try her on a completely non grain food for a week and see how she does? Also, make sure she's got enough oil in her diet. Sometimes that can cause skin problems. Also, check her environment for other irritants, such as new soaps, perfumes, etc. Hope she feels better!
