Remember Your Beloved Pet
I think I finally have an answer for my grass eating Sadie!

I have a Bloodhound/Lab mix, she is about four years old now, for the last two years she has been doing this same thing and I am so happy to find this site to know that there are other people with the same problems with their dogs! Not that I am happy your dog has this just someone to share with! When Sadie first started doing this, I was scared to death and didn't know what to do, she would also start licking the carpet! I would put her outside and she would graze the grass like she was a cow and would not get sick, her episodes would also start in the evenings. I went out one evening for a couple of hours and when I came home I couldn't open my front door, it was like something had been jammed up against it! I was finally able to push through it and to my surprise Sadie had eaten and actually swallowed a big piece of my carpet! It was just shredded, the strings were pulled for about two feet down! Luckily for me she threw them up the next morning so no vet was required at emergency prices. When she threw them up it looked like a mop that had been rung out! I took her to the vet and explained the symptoms to him and he said that she was having seizures also! I chose not to put her on the meds at this time as long as they don't get any worse, the problem is if I go somewhere when she has had a couple of seizures the night before I have to go and cut a bunch of grass and put it in the kitchen in a box so she doesn't eat anymore of my carpet! I hope this helps some of you figure out what is going on with your little friends that we all love and I hope your carpets stay in one piece! My vet does agree with the one that wrote in this discussion so I am happy that I kinda know now after all this time that my big old black dogs constant licking has a name!
