36, pregnant with 10 cm subserosal fibroid

) for the first time! I'm such a bundle of excitement and anxiety! I'm looking forward to being part of the community here. I've had no morning sickness and nausea just for a couple of days. Other than some tiredness, I don't feel any other discomfort.
During my first scan at 5 weeks, the doc found a relatively large fibroid of 10 cm (about 4 inches?) on the outside and towards the top of my uterus. Everything else was normal with the gestational sac. There was no discernible cardiac activity yet - but I assume this is because it was pretty early in the pregnancy. My doctor was worried about the fibroid and suggested ending the pregnancy and going in for a myomectomy to remove the fibroid sooner rather than later.
We were just not prepared for this and are now pursuing other opinions. I got a second opinion from a doctor who said it's too early to act, and it's best we wait and look at foetal development. Everything we've read online tells us the type and location of my fibroid will not interfere with foetal development. It might get bigger and cause me discomfort and pain... But nothing that suggests the extreme step that my first doctor recommended.
I'm due for my second scan next week. I'm just sitting tight and focusing my attention on my little one hoping s/he will grow strong and be nurtured as we get through these anxious days.
Any thoughts or advice or similar experiences?

Hi, I am 38 yrs old having my 2nd child after a 10 yr gap. I discovered my fibroids during my 1st pregnancy because of some bleeding and pain towards the end of my 1st trimester. My fibroids are still there, the largest at this time being 5 cm. That is not as large as yours but it is in the same location and I have several more in various locations between the size of 3-5cm. My doctor did mention the risks which include causing me some pain and discomfort and possibly losing the baby but she never suggested ending the pregnancy right out of the gate. I would definitely consider another opinion and maybe even a third and don't allow you doctor to rush you or scare you into anything. This is your body and your child and most definitely your decision. Best of luck and God bless.

Thank you, kbjoe. Unfortunately, things have changed drastically for me... I had a miscarriage (diagnosed as a "missed abortion", where the embryo is developing on course but stops growing at some point... 
)... So my pregnancy has ended for this time around. We are deeply heartbroken, but encouraged by the doctor's diagnosis that this had nothing to do with the fibroid, and that sometimes the pregnancy is not viable for a range of unknown reasons and maynot have any impact on future pregnancies.
So now I'm waiting to recover and then will start out on the opinion circuit again.

I am so sorry to know that...I am unmarried 29yrs and diagnosed with 9cm fibroid, which is outside of my uterus left hand side. Doctor suggested me to go for surgery but I am scared of it. I am thinking to go for non-surgical treatment and suggestions.

Definitely see a perinat specialist. Get a second opinion. Get a different ob. I too have fibroids and other masses. But mine are the bad kind, the ones in the uterus cavity and uterine walls(submucosal and intramural). My biggest is jsut 5.7cm but it does takes up the whole back wall of my uterus. I'm 13weeks now and I have already had a bleed scare and still spotting actually. I do unfortunately have other concerns at the moment with my preg but the fibroids are not to fret about.
And Subserosal are the ones to least worry about, they're outside. Yes they could cause bleeding and pain in low back especially but it should not affect the fetus. Inside the uterus are the ones that can cause different issues and sometimes none at all. And I have read where with fibroids outside the uterus if you have willing and highly skilled delivering ob...and if you should have csection, those subserosal fibroids are within reach they can be removed at that time. Kill two birds with one stone type of deal. But some obs don't like to do this..but it definitely is not unheard of. Come out of your preg with a new uterus.
But definitely try not to worry.
