I'm 39 and all of the sudden at 10 weeks I wipe and I see a little brown blood 2x today and once yesterday. Does anyone have any positive turn out after such a case? If I go to doctor can they check the baby yet for heartbeat?

When I was 6 weeks pregnant with my second child I started experiencing a moderate amount of dark brown blood daily. I went in to the doctor, although they couldn't hear a heart beat with the doppler in the office, they made an appointment for a transvaginal ultrasound. Through this ultrasound they were able to see that the baby still had a heart beat. The blood was caused by a partial placental abruption, where a section of the placenta was pulling away from the uterine wall. They told me, "good news today, cause there is still a heartbeat, but the placenta can either resolve itself, or pull away completely from the uterus, hence terminating the pregnancy." They recommended pelvic rest (no intercourse, tampons, douching, etc) and put me on a 10lb weight restriction. They did not put me on bedrest because in my first trimester if things go wrong they just consider it a spontaneous miscarriage. I took it day by day, still experiencing the bleeding but then in resolved by the 14th week.

By the 18th week, I was in the middle of moving to a new home, and I think I tested that 10lb weight restriction. I began experiencing bright red bleeding, again a moderate amount and then got really terrified. I went back to the doctor, a heart beat could be heard in the office but I still went in to get an ultrasound which revealed a placenta previa, a small amount of the placenta directly over the cervix. The doctor didn't seem to concerned and said that the placenta usually moves up and resolves itself. I continued to have daily bleeding for a few more weeks. My 22 week scheduled ultrasound revealed that the placenta had moved, and by that time I had stopped bleeding.

I did have my 2nd son at 37 weeks, vaginal delivery with no medical intervention necessary. My son had an abnormally low heartrate, so he was in the NICU for observation for 24 hours, but was just fine after that. The baby had jaundice and required bili-blanket light therapy. He is now 5 years old and in Kindergarten, and is a bright, wonderful, loving boy.

Im hoping your situation was similar to mine, either with a little placenta previa causing the bleeding. Best of luck to you.
