Arixtra?

Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to this board, but have been reading posts for some time. A little about myself: I'm 39, no kids (yet) and I've had one ectopic and three prior miscarriages. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant (my longest yet). My doctor has recently prescribed Arixtra for me due to a clotting disorder after I had allergic reactions to both Heparin and Lovenox. Apparently, this is the last drug available for my condition so am hoping my body cooperates with this one. Is anyone else taking this drug? Just wondering because there's not much talk out there about it. There are some pluses to this drug. I've had NO bruising, only minor discomfort during injection and it's only once a day. One drawback is that, although it's a class B drug, a small amout can reach the fetus. My doctor feels that my baby is at much higher risk if I don't take the drug. I think I've read everything there is to read about it on the Internet, but was just wanting some feedback from someone with first-hand experience with it.

Sorry I have not heard of it, and have not had clotting issues, but I really hope it works for you...sounds like it may just be an older or less used drug that does the same thing. Congrats on making it to 17 weeks though...that is a milestone in itself! I say if it keeps working and can help you have a healthy baby than go for it! Sorry I couldn't be more help...the boards get pretty sparse after 5 so you may want to post in the morning about this.

If you haven't already, you might want to try posting on the high risk pregnancy board--it's possible someone reading that might have a little more experience with this drug.

I have a clotting disorder but am having no issues with the Lovenox so have had no need to switch. I have heard of Arixtra but at this point, you probably know more about it than I do!

I would probably tend to agree with your dr about the risks at this point (better to be on it than not), since my clotting disorder was not diagnosed during my pregnancy with my son or my 4 losses and I had many complications which could have been prevented if I were only on a blood thinner (preterm labor, preeclampsia, placental abruption leading to emergency c-section).

Good luck with everything!

Hi, well I'm also new at this. I was reading about your issues, sorry to hear about that, I've been there myself. I have a clotting disorder as well, I was recently on Lovenox due to preganancy. I'm 12 Weeks and as you know these weeks seem like years. I was taking quite a bit of Lovenox I was taking 90mg twice a day. Then the Dr. noticed my platelets decreasing and from then they haven't stopped. He gave me a choice to be put back on Coumadin which I had been taking for 8yrs. due to my illness or to be put on Arixtra. Which he explained that it has not been used for pregnant women. Well I'm from a small town in Tx and there really isn't much around here so I thought may be that's why he hasn't heard of anyone using this drug. He didn't explain to me about the class B drug. That's a ? to ask him when i go back Tuesday. Well I hope to hear from you. And I hope everything goes well with you .
