Forty years old –pregnant?!

Gasp- this is the now or never zone. The good news is that it is possible and that you are not alone. Celeb moms who have delivered babies in their forty's include: Helen Hunt, Halle Berry, Mariah Carey, Salma Hayek, Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis.
So then, what are the issues? It is much harder to achieve pregnancy at this age- which is why it is raining twins- many pregnancies occur with the help of in vitro fertilization (IVF) which often result in more than one baby. After 40, chromosomal malformations are higher, increasing the odds for downs syndrome and possibly autism.
Additionally, the pregnancy risks increase, including: gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, placental abruption, placenta previa and premature delivery.
No need to be dismayed or discouraged- it is possible to deliver a healthy baby into the world at an "advanced" maternal age. It does, however, require more testing, ultrasounds and prenatal care with an Obstetrician who has high - risk experience.

I know what im about to ask has nothing to do with being 40 and having kids but I couldn't find anything about csections. I have 3 kids and I had csections with all 3. I might be pregnant again and I'm wondering if having another csection may cause any problems. Or just being pregnant again after 3 c-sections is a high risk on me and my child.

I was 34 when I got married, 38 when I had my first and 40 when I had my second. I didn't have any problems with either one although my second showed higher chance of Down's so I had an amnio. I would still have had her if there was Down's but I wanted to be prepared. Luckily, there was no Down's and she's a perfectly normal, smart two year old.

If you know when your next menstrual cycle is meant to begin just wait til after. if u really want to know sooner u can go get a blood test done at ur DR.s office.

This is a specific question for your OB/Midwife, as there are many factors to consider: why were c/s done all 3 times, your actual age, risks/benefits to another surgery given your medical history.

Please let us know: are you pregnant?? (Not sure there is actual "super sperm" although I do think there are couples who conceive together more readily than others!)

I am not an expert on any of this mommy business, but I am having my first successful pregnancy at age 40, my first pregnancy ended with a mc at eight weeks back in November.
Everything is going well so far, I will be eleven weeks on Saturday. I heard the baby's heartbeat on June 5. It was the best sound I have ever heard. I wanted to tell the u/s tech please don't stop let me hear it a little while longer.
My boyfriend already has a five year old, he knew I wanted a baby and this was my last try. I never thought I would have the courage to try again. He helped me get past my fears.
I am both incredibly happy and nervous about this whole pregnancy. I can't wait to see my tummy expand, although I don't know how I will get in and out of that high bed of mine. I am already rolling on and off right now.
I can't wait to get out of my first trimester, 10 more days to go.
