I know this question may seen a bit out of the ordinary or maybe not. I wanted to know if intercourse is ok or recommended during pregnancy. If so, what stages and what ways or methods are safe?

As long as the provider has not told you that you can't then sex is okay during pregnancy (generally they would tell you not to if you have had a history of an incompetent cervix or sometimes if you have had multiple miscarriages in the past). They say once you hit the 2nd trimester that you shouldn't really do the missionary position because of you laying on your back for an extended period of time but it also can be uncomfortable. A lot of people seem to like the doggies style type, woman on top or the side by side type. Its mainly whatever is comfortable to you. Also note that its possible that you could sport after the intercourse as well since your engorged with blood down there and that type of thing so its common for some to spot a small amt. just good info to know so that if it happens you know why.

My husband and I did IVF so when I got my positive blood test, the doctor wanted us to abstain. Then, when we found out we're having twins, they told us to keep abstaining. I developed a blood clot at about 7 weeks, so both my RE and OB said to abstain and the clot would go away with time. After it did, my husband and I had sex and everything was fine. I've had 3 ultrasounds since the blood clot went away and the babies are doing great.

You should definitely talk to your doctor and see what is safe for your situation.

The other responses are interesting and correct to some degree. I will keep this medical. The data on sexual intercourse in pregnancy states there is no increased risk of complications having sexual relations in pregnancy.

However, we have certainly seen our individual cases of patients who come into the hospital and deliver after having sexual relations.

You should definitely ask your healthcare provider whether you are a candidate for this kind of activity.
