5 Weeks-5Days and no Yolk Sac
avatar
BumpyRoad posted:
Hello all,

I went for my first Ultrasound on March 1st and tehre was only a gestational sac with no yolk sac or fetal pole. I was told the Gestational Sac measured 5 weeks, 5 days. The start of my last period was 15th January, so I expected to be over 6 weeks pregnant. My doctor said that we should have seen a yolk sac at the least and that this could most likely be a case of the embryo not developing at all. We are doing a followup ultrasound on March 8th. I am so worried that my baby is not forming. I have no symptoms of pregnancy so fat except some cramping and tingly breasts which are getting elss tingly now.

Has anyone else been in this situation with a positive result?

Thanks!

There has been quite a few people who went in that early (this is partly why they don't recommend u/s that early at the medical center I work for unless there is bleeding or a reason to check that early). The sac is only measuring a few days behind your LMP which is totally fine because not everyone ovulates on the same day (its more of an estimate. Some ovulate later in their cycle and some ovulate earlier. the providers here at the medical center I work for aren't really concerned unless its more around a 2 week time difference from the LMP unless you have irregular cycles which then they wouldn't worry as much). A lot of women will get these early u/s and get freaked out and then they go back a week later and they have a healthy little bean in there. Its always questionable at this stage in pregnancy on the outcomes. The ER doctor (when I was having my m/c, they couldn't tell me for sure at that point) but they said around that time is the "gray area" because it could go either way. Some women have no symptoms at all while others have horrible symptoms. Try to stay positive until told otherwise. Keep us posted. best wishes

I had my 1st ultrasound at 5w6d and all they did was measure the sac. There was no way to see a full yolk sac or fetal pole at that time. I went in a week later and saw everything including the flutter of the heartbeat. At the second ultrasound the "baby" measured 3 days behind, and continued to do so the whole time. Do not get worried yet at this point, it is way to early to determine anything.
