Multiple uterine fibroids - is elective c section at 37 weeks advisable or too soon?

I have multiple uterine fibroids. Most of them are small. There are 2 medium sized ones and one large one which is 7cm. It's on the anterior wall just below my naval.

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant. All my reports have been normal so far. The placenta is not low lying and none of the fibroids are low or in the baby's way.

My doctor has advised me to go for an elective c-section at 37 weeks. He feels waiting anymore after 37 weeks puts me at significant risks.

This is my first pregnancy. I was having trouble getting pregnant. I went through a MRI guided High frequency ultrasound (HIFU) to treat my fibroids. One of those fibroids was submucosal at that point. I conceived in the same cycle after having gone through the HIFU. I am 32 year old.

Is my doctor right in asking me to go in for elective at 37 weeks?

What risks would there be if you did not have a c-section at 37 weeks? That would be my first questions for the doctor.

He outlined regular risks to any normal pregnancy, like early detachment of placenta, aging of placenta if labor is delayed beyond 39-40 weeks, chances of a fibroid coming in the way (even though there are none as far as the ultrasound indicates).

However, his point is, that given my age and history with conception, he considers this a case of precious pregnancy. So feels any risk should be eliminated by opting for a c-section.

I don' t know what your age has to do with it. My doctor doesn't consider a woman an "older" mother until 35.

As a c-section is major surgery, it should be carefully considered.
