I went into Urgent Care this past Sunday night (6-10-12) for a UTI and found out I was pregnant (big SURPRISE!!!). I have a 49 day menstrual cycle, I must have ovulated earlier than normal as I was just supposed to have ovulated on Friday...I called the OB Monday morning (6-11) to set a prenatal appt. to find out how far along I am. Set for today (Tuesday). Yesterday afternoon sometime between 4 and 5 I started spotting bright red. Called OB he had me go in for HCG and Progeterone (sp?) test around 6 and by the time I got home, I had stopped spotting. He called me back and left a voice mail saying that my HCG was at 118 which would be what I am supposed to be at a few days after my missed period (which doesn't really make sense as my period isn't due until (6-22), but that due to my spotting I was having a chemical pregnancy and not to bother coming to my appt this morning, yet to go get a blood draw on Thursday...How could a little bit of spotting for 2 hours (not straight that was just the time period) be a chemical pregnancy if my HCG is in within the right numbers?

Find a different OB. If your current OB isn't worried about you then he isn't worth your time.

I agree, find a different ob with better matters. There really isn't much for an ob to do before 8 weeks, except confirm pregnancy. It can be hard to see the tiny fetus before then, and there is no way to get a heartbeat. Since there is already a record of pregnancy from the hospital, I can understand your ob saying to wait for another blood draw, but things should have been explained to you. Time to go ob shopping.

thats weird... i would get a second opinion..it is confusing so he is saying that you are not preggo bc of the spotting or what?? and that was deteremined on yesterday when you came in that why you only have to go back for blood/lab woek on today...give us an update..cause that just crazy he didnt let you know in a way that you would understand what is going on..

I did end up miscarrying on the 22nd (my daughter's birthday). Never did end up seeing him, he wouldn't see me because he felt due to my test results that it wasn't a viable pregnancy, my hormones did double for 3 draws and then they took a drastic dip and I miscarried. I live in a small town, and my now old ob (as I will never go to him again) has been working a long time, none of the ob's in either of the two closest cities would touch me either after finding out that my ob was sure I was going to miscarry. The thing that upsets me the most is that while my HCG was doubling like it was supposed to for awhile my progesterone was only at a 2.9. He wouldn't consider giving me a prescription for progesterone as he didn't feel it was a viable pregnancy. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply for those that asked for an update.
