Drinking enough water during pregnancy?

phillipsnic posted:
Hi,
I know I'm supposed to be drinking enough water (everyday, not just during pregnancy) but it is especially important now. I just am getting tired of drinking plain old water and find myself not drinking as much as I should because of that.
Is it ok to add flavoring to the water I'm drinking? I am trying to avoid products that contain aspartame, but are other products ok?

I don't see why not! I mean, really, as long as you are getting the hydration, I don't see how a little flavoring would hurt. I would just be worried about the additional sugar/calories, but that's just me.

I know what you mean though, I have a 24oz tervis tumbler and I fill that thing several times/day! I feel like I am constantly drinking water (and subsequently, constantly peeing!), however, I love water! Nice and cold, nothing quenches my thirst like it.

But I say go for it! If it helps you stay hydrated, why not!?

That's what I did when I was pregnant to make sure I was drinking enough water.

Hello phippipsnic -

Here are a couple of resources that talk about the good and bad foods of pregnancy -

I like to add lemons or cucumbers to a pitcher of water for a little variety and this article lists some other options to jazz up plain water.

Let us if any of this sounds refreshing,

I'm 14 weeks pregnant and I have trouble drinking enough too. My cousin's wife gave me some great ideas though. She puts strawberries in her water and lets it sit for a little bit. It gets so good. And it is a serving of fruit too! She also puts mint in hers, and sometimes other herbs, but we aren't suppose to have certain herbs so you have to be careful with that.

Thanks for the response. These are all great ideas and I will definitely try to the strawberry idea!
Went to the doctor this morning, we heard the heartbeat for the first time and the doctor says everything is normal.
