Would You Hire a "Mannie?"
Sarah McMoyler, RN posted:
In this months Parenting Magazine, they featured an article about men providing childcare, an interesting concept in my mind. We have male teachers, coaches, and flight attendants, why not men providing care for our children? Particularly in this job market, when well-educated men are struggling to find good paying jobs.

Perhaps it's time to break out of the traditional care models and include new options that meet current needs, such as a single mom who wants her child to have contact with a male role model. Some of the mom's interviewed shared experiences of: less drama, more flexible and more direct communication with mannies.

What do you think? Would you hire a man to care for your child?

If I were a single mother without any male figures in my life and I had a son, I might consider hiring a male caretaker.

I would hire the most qualified person for the job. Also, I would not discount a prospective care giver simply because they are male.

I honestly don't understand this stigma attached to men providing care. Like their gender handicaps them from being able to provide adequate care. In any event, I would absolutely hire a "manny".
